Join me for a class! With the opening of the new brick and mortar shop, I’ll have just enough room to hold small classes. Take a class at the shop in Buda – 503 S. Loop 4.
Classes are scheduled Sundays and/or Mondays.
Introduction to Spinning on a Wheel
Get acquainted with your spinning wheel and learn the basic concepts of spinning your own yarn. We’ll have a quick chat about the characteristics of wool, spinning wheel parts, adjustments on your wheel, and drafting. You will spent a good amount of time on your wheel treadling and practicing drafting.
Beginner Drop Spindle Spinning
Learn how to spin wool into yarn using a drop spindle. Spindle spinning is a great way to become familiar with the basics of spinning. This class will provide a foundation of knowledge that can be used with any spinning tool. We will cover – wool, twist, spindle, and how-to’s.
Already started with a spindle and need additional help? Need a refresher on your basics? Have questions? This class is an opportunity to brush-up or start from scratch.
Plying
Learn how to spin those singles together for a balanced two (or more) ply yarn. We will learn basic 2 ply, Andean ply, and chain ply techniques (or as much as time allows). We will be using spinning wheels in class. Students should have good working knowledge of a spinning wheel and be able to spin singles, treadle forward and backward with ease. You will need to bring 2 – 3 bobbins with plenty of singles for plying in class.
Introduction to Hand Carders
Learn how to make rolags for woolen spinning. We will work with natural colored washed fleece.
